Most of the people believe that it is not harmless to fall asleep with wet hair wrapped in a towel. Besides many scientists have proven that the myths that sleeping with wet hair causes cold or pneumonia are false, this bad habit have other harmful consequences on your overall health.
- Fungus – Everybody’s know that pillows are full of oils and dead skin cells from your body, bacteria and dust mites because they absorb sweat. Wet hair transfers the wetness to the pillow because it dampen the towel and thus combined with heat, pillowcase and pillow are becoming ground for growth of fungi.
- Headache – Unlike in non REM sleep (Sleep characterized by rapid periodic twitching movements), the temperature of the body rises in REM sleep. The towel gets warm the head and rises the body temperature and humidity that actually cause headaches.
Especially during the winter, we do not have time to put the pillow and pillowcase out in the fresh air and this situation actually leads to the development of bacteria.
- Hair Breakage – You sleep on your hair during the night which is really bad because the hair can be broken easily. It especially refers when the hair is wet.
You should think twice before you sleep with wet hair again.
