Most people know that the reasons for gaining weight and poor health in general are eating processed food, lack of exercise and a sedentary lifestyle. However, there is a proof that a common household toxin is responsible for a number of health problems, including gaining weight. So, you may be having a healthy lifestyle, but still this toxin affects your health. It is present in 30% of all structures in America. The toxin is mold.
Mold and the role it has in chronic diseases
Mold is a bio-toxin and it generates and inflammatory response when it enters the human body. Inflammation is the natural defense of the body against intruders like the mold spores and the mycotoxins which are derived from them. Nevertheless, this immune response activates and never shuts down in approximately 28 % of people thereby making the inflammation severe and chronic. In a lot of cases doctors are bewildered when a person becomes sick and their condition does not improve.
An example of this is the case of Kimberlyn, 46, who is a highly-educated and intelligent woman and also a wife and a mother. Kimberlyn became sick in 2010 for no obvious reason. She lost 25 pound in less than 90 days and also felt disorientated and confused to that point that she had difficulty in putting on clothes. She wasn’t able to make decisions and to function and she had to give up her career. She was diagnosed with something between anxiety and depression to bipolar disorder at first.
She was diagnosed with toxic mold syndrome after two series of the mysterious illness. Her house was tested and three strains of toxic mild were discovered, including Stachybotrys, known as black mold.
Mold, migraine and chronic fatigue
Exposure to mold is connected to chronic fatigue, migraine and sudden weight gain. In most cases, doctors misdiagnose this and since the patients are being treated for something else, they never really recover.
Toxin mold symptom is often misdiagnosed with allergies, and the reason for this is because this syndrome is able to imitate allergies and other conditions, like fibromyalgia.
In what way does mold affect weight gain?
Mold causes chronic inflammation and this kind of inflammation weakens the hormone Leptin. This hormone signals your brain when you are full and do not need any more food. If Leptin is reduced, then you will feel hunger all the time. This is the reason people who live in a house infested with mold gain weight.
Dave Asprey, who is the founder of the bulletproof diet, moved into a new flat in 1999. He didn’t know that his neighbors had a water heater that leaked. Because of the leak, his bedroom wall coated with black mold. Dave gained 30 pounds within a month and had a number of other symptoms as well, in spite of the fact he ate healthily and exercised regularly.
Do this if there is mold in your home
Firstly, test your home. Next, install HEPA filter and make sure that the quality of the air in your house remains clean. Even though it is recommended to call professional to clean the mold, you can clean it yourself if it is just a little bit. You can clean the mold with a mixture of vinegar, 1 quart of water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda.
Use an ozone generator to treat airborne mold, but just in rooms that are in safe ranges.
