36 women and men were included in this study. They were separated in 3 groups and all of them consumed 350 calories. The first group actually skipped the breakfast (drank only water for 3h), the other consumed cornflakes and the third one had oatmeal breakfast.

They gave blood samples in order to monitor the blood sugar and insulin levels – they had to record their safety state – and in the end they all had the same lunch.

The results were the following: the oatmeal group was the least hungry group and they consumed 31% fewer calories at lunch. After 3 hours, the cornflakes group was really hungry as well as the water group. What are the reasons for this situation?

Oatmeal is kept in the stomach for longer period of time while cornflakes increase the blood glucose, causing quick and sudden drop.
